Elizabeth Edna Owens (Jung) of Raymore, Missouri lived a full life and passed into the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by the love of her daughters on April 21, 2024 at the age of 76. She was born on October 6, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to Irene Elizabeth Schoeneweis Jung and Frederic William Michael Jung.
Betsey, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Southwest High School in 1965. After obtaining a degree from Calvary Bible College, she went on to earn her Masters in Science at Central Missouri State University. She also attended other various institutions, such as North Park University (IL) and William Jewell (MO).
She worked as an intern clinical psychologist at St. Joseph State Hospital and Allegan County Mental Health Center, as a Consultant at Hiawatha Mental Health Center, a Clinical Psychologist at Wyandot Mental Health Center, a Clinical Psychologist at Newaygo County Mental Health Center, Individual and family therapist at Covenant Children's Home, Clinical Psychologist at Samuel Rodgers Health, Intensive In-Home Specialist at Gillis Cornerstones of Care, and as a Parent Aide at Alter Care Kansas City before retiring to her books and grandchildren.
After returning to Kansas City, she raised four daughters with her first husband Robert WitbolsFeugen.
While taking care of her own mother, she met and married Richard Bart Owens in 1991. Alongside Bart, she became a licensed real estate agent for new and existing homes while continuing to work in the mental health profession. They built a home together in Raymore, MO and were married until his death in 2010.
Betsey was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Anastasia Elizabeth WitbolsFeugen, her mother-in-law Norma Owens, her husband Richard Bart Owens, her brothers Frederic William Jung II and M-Sgt. Richard Jung, and her sister Cecile Kuykendall.
She is survived by her daughters Francesca Fitzner (James), Katrientje Davis (Andrew), and Teminka WitbolsFeugen; her brothers Dr. Christopher Jung and Dr. Marshall Jung; her step children Dr. Lisa Goin (Rick) and John Bart Owens (Dana); her grandchildren: Cloe and Zelda WitbolsFeugen, Ophelia and Reginald Fitzner, Jackson, Abigail, and Henry Davis; and her step grandchildren: Tyler and Lauren Goin, Tess, Bart, and Tara Owens. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Betsey loved to travel, whether it was frequent camping trips across the United States with her daughters or visiting European countries with Bart. She had a love of history, especially British and American History. She often brought her daughters to historic sites including the Laura Ingalls Wilder home and various civil war battle fields and battleships. She went on to become an election judge and always encouraged others to vote. A true bibliophile, she was seldom without a paperback in hand or purse. She was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan and was happy to see them both win recent championships.
The family would like to thank St Joseph Medical Center for the care and compassion they showed our mother in her final days.
Betsey had one last request of her friends and family: on the 4th of July following her passing, view a fireworks display with her in mind, as she enjoyed them greatly.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to Alzheimer's Association or Kansas City Parents of Murdered Children.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service and internment of her ashes at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home located at 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City MO, 64131 on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 2:00PM.
