Douglas (Doug) Franklin Page (November 2, 1943 – November 15, 2024) – Doug lived a full life in Kansas City, filled with family, friends and a good bottle of wine. He was the son of Leland and Maxine Page.
He never lived far from his roots in Roeland Park, to Milhaven in Mission and ultimately a 53-year “starter” home in Prairie Village with his wife of 56-years, Joyce. He and Joyce met on the UMB Bank bowling league that led to many happy hours, marriage and a lifetime of experiences, including his children. He was proud of his two children, Lee and Sarah (Drue).
He provided a solid foundation of life skills, explored the country and was supportive of them both, especially of their choice to attend the University of Kansas. Doug was both a Jayhawk and a Gorilla, as well as a proud Shawnee Mission North Indian – he never missed a reunion, including the most recent 60th.
Doug learned to hunt early in his life with his father and brother, Randy. Through the years, this included many seasons and early mornings. His hunting hobby continued through his final year with friends at the Hunt Club. He was happy to share this sport with his grandson, Stuart. He loved spending time with his grandson, especially if they were enjoying his passion for wine, even better if they could pair it with a Jayhawk basketball game. Stuart was (is) pretty perfect in his eyes. They could talk for hours on so many topics.
Later in life, Doug enjoyed traveling with Joyce and many friends. Many of these trips centered around wine and many regions abroad. He couldn’t resist a full-bodied cabernet. He kept ordering wine to add to his collection until just days before the end.
Professionally, Doug led a storied career at UMB Bank spanning nearly 60 years. In many ways UMB was family to Doug. UMB was a big part of Doug and his family’s lives. He and Joyce represented UMB in support of many arts and charitable events through the years.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Page; father, Leland Page; and brother Bart Page.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Prairie Village); son, Lee Page of KCMO; daughter Sarah Page (Drue Kennedy) of Westwood; grandson, Stuart Hanson (Washington DC); brother Randy Page (Tina) of California; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wanda and LaMarr Matthes and Linda and Larry Crist and many nieces & nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas.
