Donald Hunter Ong, age 85, of Kansas City, MO passed away February 7, 2011. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 13 at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO from 3:00 – 5:30 pm with the Rosary at 5:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More.
Donald was born on July 5, 1925 in Kansas City, MO to William and Esther (Hunter) Ong. He grew up in the Kansas City area, where he graduated from Rockhurst High School. Donald was treasurer of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, while he attended the University of Kansas, and after graduation, went on to receive his MBA from Harvard. He taught at Western Ontario where he established the Business Department. Donald married Dolly McNamee on September 1, 1949. They were married for 57 years before she passed away in April of 2007. During WWII, Donald served in the Army training pilots at the Ong Airport. He was a founding member of St. Thomas More parish, a long time member of Blue Hills Country Club, and a member of many men’s Catholic organizations. As founder of Ong Building Corporation, he developed several subdivisions in the Kansas City area, his last subdivision being Timber Trace.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Ong.
He is survived by his children, Mary (Rick) Schindler, Barbara (Gary) Pettus, Richard (Jody) Ong, Terry (Mike) Talley, William (Kim) Ong, Elizabeth Kubicki, and David Ong; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
