David L. Harvey, 83, Leawood, Kansas, passed away on November 25, 2011, with loving family at his side. He will be greatly missed by friends and family. Dave was born December 20, 1927, the only child of David S. and Gladys (Cooperider) Harvey. Dave served in the U.S. Navy, before receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, due to polio. He next attended Kansas State College to study electrical engineering and design. From there, he joined his father at Harvey Electric Company, and eventually became the owner/manager for many years. He was active in the National Electrical Contractors Association as well. Dave met the love of his life, Barbara, and they wed in 1953. Eventually, they raised two daughters, and in their usual generous way, shared their home with two nieces. He gave all he had to his family, never expecting anything in return, and was a role model for all. His other love, hockey, was shared with family, too. He officiated at children’s games, and lead the way on many family and friend weekend hockey trips over the years. Dave’s favorite job was being an Off-Ice Official (penalty box) for the KC Blades for 10 seasons, rarely missing a game. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Barbara, nieces Ann Brown and Mindy Schutter. He is survived by: daughters Jan and Lea (Richard Herges), nieces Carol Mackie and Barbie (Steve Johnson, daughters Emily and Jessica), nephews Jeff Shelton and Kyle Zimmerman, and cousin David Stephens. Many precious dogs shared their lives with Dave, most notably Sugar, Bayer, Emma, and Sydney. Visitation will be Saturday, December 3, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes, Kansas City, Missouri, 64131. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to www.freedomservicedogs.org or Freedom Service Dogs, Inc., 2000 W. Union Avenue, Englewood, Colorado 80110-5567. A truly gentle man, may we all follow Dave’s lead, and show more kindness toward others. Condolences may be offered at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.
