Cynthia Yvonne Newstrom

Cynthia “Cyndi” Newstrom, 59, of Overland Park, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at home. She was born June 21, 1958 in Brookings, South Dakota, the daughter of Newt and Shirley (Buckland) Newstrom.

After moving to Topeka with her family in 1966, Cyndi grew up in the Westboro area, attending Topeka Public Schools and graduating from Topeka West High School in 1976. She spent several years living in Southern California before moving to Overland Park, KS in the early 1990s.

On August 1, 2002 Cyndi married her partner of over 20 years, Kent Davis. Cyndi and Kent loved spending time outdoors, especially at Lake Perry, where they owned a boat for many years. Cyndi loved water and spent many weekends at the lake socializing and waterskiing. She was a fan of KU basketball and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

Cyndi’s true passion in life was animals and she cared for them deeply. Over the years, she rescued countless animals including rabbits, cats, and dogs. She passionately supported many animal organizations and vehemently opposed animal testing and cruelty. In recent years, she worked at a veterinary clinic where she was able to put her passion for helping animals to work.

Survivors include her husband, Kent Davis of the home and their beloved Golden Retriever, Champagne and their cats Bitty and Buddy. She is also survived by her father, Newt Newstrom of Topeka; Mother-in Law, Coralene Davis of Topeka, brothers Cole (Vickie) Newstrom of Lawrence, Doug (Ronda) Newstrom of Leawood; and sister Dawn (Andy) Graham of Topeka. Other survivors include nieces and nephews Cody (Rachel) Moran, Alissa (Dewey) Peters, Linaya (Eric) Nevels, Amanda (Andy) Koukol, Jacob, Alec, and Sarah Newstrom and a great-nephew, Carter Moran.

Cyndi is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Newstrom, numerous aunts and uncles, and many cherished animal companions.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2017 at the McGilley State Line Chapel.
