Clark Anderson Fisher

Clark died peacefully at Claridge Court on Friday, January 15, 2016. He was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, January 19, 1918, to James B. and Emma Anderson Fisher. Clark graduated from Waukesha High School and from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After a trip to Europe in 1939, he joined the Army Air Corps. and was trained to be an aeronautical engineer through courses at Purdue University and Chanute Field. His was the first class to graduate and became known as the Class of 41-1. Clark served in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, for 3 years, where he was stationed at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He retired as Major, 4th Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, March Air Force Base, California, in 1945, and he and his wife, Helen, returned to Waukesha with their newborn baby boy, James.

Clark joined the International Division of Trans World Airlines in 1945 in New Castle, Delaware. When the TWA International and Domestic Divisions were combined in 1949, he moved to Kansas City with Helen, James and newly born son, Douglas. After 38 years, Clark retired from TWA in 1983 as Chief Engineer.

Clark volunteered as a fourth-grade science teacher for 20 years at Christa McAuliffe and John Diemer Elementary Schools. He was very much impressed with the abilities of the fine teachers with whom he worked and enjoyed creating projects for the students, which demonstrated the wonders of science he appreciated so much.

He belonged to the Society of Automotive Engineers, TWA Retirees, Town & Country Investment Organization, Old Mission UM Church and Society of Fellows at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Clark is survived by his wife, Helen, of 72 years, son James of Santa Fe, New Mexico, son Douglas and his wife, Katie, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, grandchildren Andrew, Katharine, James and Emma, and great-grandchildren Sydney and Blain. All who knew him knew Clark was a good man who led a good life, and did a lot of good for others. He thoroughly enjoyed his family, and good family times.

Funeral services to be held at Old Mission United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Mission Road and Shawnee Mission Parkway, Fairway, Kansas 66205, on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 2:00pm. No flowers, please. Memorial contributions to the Old Mission UM Scholarship Fund, the Emma Fisher Memorial Fund at Trees for Tomorrow in Eagle River, Wisconsin 54521, Continua Hospice in Leawood, Kansas 66209, or an organization of your choice honoring Clark's interests are greatly appreciated by the family.
