Clarice Lewis, 77, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away February 20, 2015. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a Homegoing Celebration at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. She will be laid to rest in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
On January 31, 1938, in Clarksville, Texas, Clarice Lewis was born to Mary Gray and Silas Edwards. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age, and was a faithful member of Greater Bethel M.B. Church with the Reverend Victor L. Lee where she remained until her passing. She attended Cheatham High School. Clarice Lewis retired from Honeywell (Bendix), where she worked for more than 30 years, but the real love of her life was taking care of her family.
She loved to read, cook, fish, and do crossword puzzles in the newspaper every week. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all that had the chance to meet her.
Clarice (Edwards) Lewis was united in marriage to Theodist Lewis Sr., on May 28th, 1955, who preceded her in death on November 17th, 2014. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1955, and were blessed with six children, Cusandra “Sandy” Miller (Leodis), Theodoria “Lynn” Gallup (Stephen), Theolia “Hakie” Echols, Theodist “June Bug” Lewis Jr., (LaShon Deceased), Theodore “Olie” Lewis (Deceased), and Theaudra “Melia” Penn (Carlos).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary & Silas Edwards of Clarksville, Texas, two brothers Silas (June) Edwards of Houston, Texas, Albert Edwards of Clarksville, Texas, and one sister Doris Nelson of Dallas, Texas, one son Theodore (Olie) Lewis; and two grandsons Leonard Bright and Jermaine Echols.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, five children all of Kansas City, Missouri, Cusandra, Theodoria, Theolia, Theodist Jr., Theaudra, and three sisters Ophelia Scales of Clarksville, Texas, Birda Mae Lewis of Kansas City, Missouri and Sherry Dockers of Plano, Texas; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Her passing leaves a great big hole in our heart, she will be missed.
