She married James T. Keener on July 11, 1955. In 1956, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri due to his new position at work. There they raised their three (3) children.
In addition to being a housewife and Mother, she worked her entire career in the Mailing Services Industry. She knew all the ins and outs to mailing anything you could think of. It was a rewarding position that she enjoyed a lot. After serving her community for 30 years, she happily retired in 1993 knowing that she had made a difference.
She loved being with her family and friends especially during special events and holidays. At our Christmas gift opening time, she was the wrapping paper/tissue collector and always did it with pride. Her role as Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother brought her great joy.
She enjoyed the many road trips back to “Sweet Home Alabama” to visit her family there. Later in life she shared the duty of being a caregiver for her Father, Mother and younger sister until their deaths.
She enjoyed gardening, especially her peonies and roses. Her other hobbies included making heirloom quilts for her children and grandchildren, sewing, crocheting and cake decorating. Also, she liked canning food and cooking for family events held at her home. There were also many games of Canasta and Choo-Choo Train Dominoes played with her family. Her boys in blue (Royals) were always #1 to her. She loved to watch every game on TV, cheering them on - WIN or lose! She was excited to attend her first game at The K in August 2016 with her daughter. She also loved her some Willie Nelson music and going to Las Vegas back in the day.
She was spunky, a little sassy but most of all the true definition of a Matriarch to our Family. We were so blessed to have her with us for 90 years, 3 months, and 2 days.
