Charles Lynn Shiner, 87 crossed into glory on Monday, June 15, 2015. Born in Braymer, MO January 17, 1928 to the late Florence Anna (Clevenger) and Charles Steinrod Shiner. Charles is survived by his wife, Catherine (Taylor), his daughter & son-in-law, Susan and Roger Toben and grandchildren; Elaina (Toben) and John Piccoli- children Anthony, Lucy, and Sammy, Benjamin Toben, Bryan and Laura (Hennicke) Toben, and Catherine Toben, and by his daughter & son-in-law, Cynthia and David Fennell and grandchild Shannon. His son, Charles Gregory, preceded him in death. Charles’ siblings: Catherine (Vernon) Smith (deceased), Maxine (Herschel) Trowbridge (deceased), Arlene (Bennie) Royal, Kenneth (Mary) Shiner, Sarah (Lloyd) Parker, Roger (Freda) Shiner, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews & nieces. Charles grew up in KC MO, was baptized into Christ at Bethany Baptist church and was a longtime member of Bales Baptist Church. He graduated from Northeast High School..Charles received a BA in Languages from William Jewell College and graduated J.D. from UMKC School of Law in 1954. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and served as a Yeoman in the US Navy on board the USS Sea Devil during WWII, discharged in February 1946, serving in the South Pacific, Japan, and China.
Charles married in 1953, moved to St. Louis and worked for West Publishing Company for thirty-seven years. He raised his family in St Louis and in the family of Southwest Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and President of the Finance Committee, as well as in many other capacities. Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved well and was greatly loved. He now has returned to the Lord for his reward.
