Charles G. Rivera, Sr., 82 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He and his tremendous will and bravery will be honored at services beginning with the visitation on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Holy Name Church, Kansas City, Kansas where there will be a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family requests contributions to either Holy Name Church or Saint Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza.
Charlie was born on May 13, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to David and Guadalupe (Nieto) Rivera. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. On July 4, 1952, Charlie married Dolores (Lola) De La Torre later resulting in seven children. He was a laborer all of his life, last working for the Colgate Company as a freight handler. A longtime parishioner of Holy Name Church, he was also a member of their Knights of Columbus Council. Besides his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Lola, in 1995. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Willie, Eddie, Eloy, and Roy; one sister, Lydia; and three grandchildren. Charlie’s survivors include three sons, Charlie Rivera, Jr. (Laura), Michael Rivera (Laura), and Robert Rivera (Cindy); four daughters, Liz Alaniz (Jesse), Terrie Rivera (Charlie Ortiz), Mary Rivera, and Julie Tinoco (Gabriel), all of the Kansas City area; three brothers, Wilford Rivera of Germany, David Ramirez, and Mayo Ramirez; three sisters, Beatrice (Bea) Morales, Velia Ochoa, and Lupe Rios, all of the Kansas City area; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren with one on the way. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Saint Luke’s Hospital physicians, nursing staff, and Hospice Care.
