She was born June 13, 1939 in KCMO to Melvin & Marguerite Merritt.
After graduating from South East HS in 1957, she married the love of her life, John R. “Rick” Young on Sept 21, 1957 where they raised their family of five children & renewed their vows March 4, 2020 celebrating 62 ½ years together.
A lifelong resident of KC, she raised her family & enjoyed a successful career in real estate with Hardin Stockton, & then became co-founder/owner of KC One Real Estate. She sold real estate for 15 yrs while holding her broker’s license in KS & MO. She received multiple sales awards.
Carrie started her second career when she joined & was instrumental in expanding Cy Young Industries, Inc. with her husband & children. Her marketing on domestic & international levels took her from coast to coast for 38 years, to Brussels, Paris, Sydney, & Singapore. She loved to travel. Her enthusiasm with her family’s genealogy took her to Ireland, twice. Once with her mother. She traced her family to the 1600’s.
Carrie loved theatre and sewing. She enjoyed making costumes for The Barn Players in Prairie Village, Kansas in the early 1970’s. This developed a lifelong hobby of sewing & quilting. She made beautiful quilts that will be treasured for generations to come.
Carrie was very proud of being a Girl Scout leader when the children were young and she supported her grandsons throughout their time in the Boy Scouts. Very proud!
She enjoyed travel to the Holy Land, movies, birthdays, holidays, snorkeling & scuba diving, which took her to places like, Belize, Great Barrier Reef, Barbados & Tahiti. Her favorite place to vacation was Akumal, Mexico, since 1975. The family has many special memories of trips together.
She took pride in being a businesswoman, wife, mother & grandmother. Especially a grandmother. Her Angels.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Nancy Williams. She leaves her husband John R “Rick” Young, children Jody Akins, Cathy Oxley (Tom), Rick Jr (Giselle) Diane Koeser (Mark), Nancy (Bill Flatt), grandchildren Melissa Akins DePratt (Tony), Stephen Akins, & Jack Oxley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warriors, BSA/GSA local chapters or Catholic Community Hospice.
Carrie was as beautiful in death as she was in life.
