Bonnie Lee Coontz, 92, was born in Wyandotte County on February 16, 1932 and passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of September 22, 2024. Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Howard Simon Wiltfong; her mother, Lillian Esther (Wiber) Wiltfong; sister, Caroline Flowers; brother, Frank Wiltfong; and her beloved husband, Donald Eugene Coontz.
Early in life, Bonnie started a career at the Bendix Corporation, where she met the love of her life, Don Coontz. They married in May of 1975 and spent 48 years together until Don’s death in October of 2023.
Bonnie is survived by an abundance of family which includes her three children, Kathleen Tucker, Cal Pruett (Carla Wilson), Chet Pruett (Suzy); and 2 step children, Cheryl Coontz and Mark Coontz (Pauline). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Bonnie’s number one love was flowers and gardening. She spent countless hours planting, growing and enjoying the beauty of God’s grace. She also delighted in china painting and ceramics and passed many pieces down to family members. Bonnie excelled in sewing, upholstery, quilting and even dabbling in smocking. Her creativity knew no bounds and she was willing to teach all of her kids, grandkids, or anyone wanting to learn more. Bonnie took pleasure in feeding her hummingbirds, sometimes hundreds at a time, and looked forward to them coming back every year. Last, but certainly not least, Bonnie relished spending time with her family. Her grandkids and great grandkids were the highlight of her life. She will be remembered for all the delicious weekend breakfasts, family gatherings and holiday meals that were second to none. Bonnie truly left an imprint on the lives of her loved ones.
Her funeral service will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, September 25th at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. In lieu of flowers, please make a monetary donation to the American Cancer Society.
