Betty Jo Gatewood, 93, of Kansas City, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away, Saturday, August 26, 2023, surrounded by her family. Married in 1950, to Bernard Gatewood, and now reunited in heaven with her “Bernie.”
Mom was a survivor, strong and resolute, devoted to her family’s success and happiness. And, at the end, fighting the terrible effects of dementia. Mom was the true definition of what Tom Brokow called, “The Greatest Generation.”
Her family has so many fond memories – especially, Christmases. Mom took great care in decorating, notably her tree, which looked like something from a child’s dream. She was careful to select the perfect presents and prepared meals fit for Santa.
In the end, mom was content with being a great wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and lover of dachshunds. So let it be said of our mom, not all great people are famous. Some like our mom go through life making life better for others. She never said bad things or gossiped, but always was positive and happy, always wanting the best for her family, often sacrificing her own needs for the family – that is greatness.
She is survived by sons Marcus (Carla), Colin (Terry), daughter Tammy Jo (Dan) and eight grandchildren (and spouses) and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be private. Donations of your choice or ASPCA
