"BETTY" Elizabeth Carol Broski "Betty," age 77, of Leawood, Kan., passed away peacefully surrounded by her five children on Friday, October 1, 2010, on the Feast Day of St. Therese, the Little Flower, at the Kansas City Hospice House after a six month battle with lung cancer. She was born in 1932 in Kansas City, Mo.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Stanley M. Broski, Jr., her parents, Herb and Florence Ziegler, her stepmother, Milre Bruns Ziegler, two brothers, Joseph and John Ziegler and a sister, Mary Ann Perry. She is survived by her five children, Mark Broski of Richmond, Va., Jim Broski of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Anne Burns of Goleta, Calif., Carol Kane of Leawood, Kan., and Susan Corpuz of Omaha, Neb. She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Orscheln and Virginia Bagby and her brother, Herb Ziegler. She is survived by her mother-in-law, Anna Broski, and two brother-in-laws, Fred and John Broski and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was immensely proud of her 12 grandchildren, Justin, Christine, Matthew, Katie, Sarah, Maria, Kalina, Jack, Michael, Thomas, Katie, and Gregory.
Betty graduated from St. Teresa's Academy in 1950. She was a beloved primary teacher at St. Thomas More and Barstow School as well as an active parishioner at St. Thomas More Parish and Nativity Parish. She was a long-time member of the Ladies of Charity, Rockhurst Library Guild, and the Ladies of Nativity. Betty cherished her many friends from childhood, high school and beyond. Her abundant lists and her frequent bridge games testify to her remarkable attention to detail.
She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. The family would especially like to thank her physicians, Dr. Cosmo Caruso, Dr. Richard McKittrick, Dr. Daniel Murillo, Dr. Richard Muther, and Dr. Robert Wendland. The family is deeply grateful for all those that cared for her, especially Connie Fahey, Misty Brown, the Caregivers, and the team at Kansas City Hospice House. The family will forever remember your kindness and friendship.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Church of the Nativity, 3800 West 119th, Leawood, Kan. Mass of Christian Burial will begin immediately after at 12 p.m. with burial following in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Theresa's Academy, the Polycystic Kidney Foundation, 8330 Ward Pkwy., Suite 510, KCMO 64114 or the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, KCMO 64145 so they may continue their incredible mission.
