Child of Charles Albert Stover Sr. and Vida Alma Dodd Stover. Barbara L. Williams McClure was born January 20, 1926, in Medford, Oklahoma and passed away August 4, 2018 in Kansas City, Missouri at 92 years of age. A child of the Great American Dust Bowl, she was no stranger to adversity. Her family moved from Oklahoma to Arkansas where their home and town were literally wiped off the map by a tornado shortly after they arrived. The family then moved to Louisville, Kentucky. She met William Robert Williams as a teenager and married “Bill” after he returned from WWII. She had a keen intellect and desired to attend the University of Louisville with her husband but out of necessity she helped him achieve his career goals and raised their five children. She found herself the helpmate of a hospital administrator and dedicated her time to her growing family. William “Bill” Williams passed away August 28, 1976 just past the age of 50 leaving her a widow in Ridgecrest, California. Later in life she married Dr. David B. McClure (deceased) and spent many years in the Pacific Northwest. An avid reader and world traveler who loved flowers and the ocean. . She was an elegant and beautiful lady.
She has four living children: Michael L. Williams, (Jan) , Laura L. Williams Wells, (Wavel), Anthony “Tony” Williams, (Jackie), Sylvia Ann Williams Thompson, (Patrick). She is also survived by a brother Charles Albert “Buddy” Stover, Jr., (Beth). Her son James Robert Williams and her sister Gladys Stover Myers preceded her in death. She is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as extended members of the Williams, Stover, Wells, Thompson and Myers families.
A prayer Barbara taught her young children and was lovingly prayed over her in her final hours: “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
