BARBARA L. BEHNER Barbara Lee Vaught Behner, of Independence MO, gracefully entered heaven Sunday May 15, 2016 at the age of 78. Memorial service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Floral Hills, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm. Barbara was preceeded in death by her father and mother, Harold and Helen Vaught ,and her loving husband Robert Behner. Barbara is survived by her sister Dorothy Vaught Lockwood, Brother Robert and Maria Vaught, step children Robin and Gary Kerwin, Mark and Beth Behner, Jon and Debbie Behner and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara was born March 20, 1938 in Kansas City, MO. Growing up, Barbara and her family loved to spend weekends together down at the Lake of the Ozarks . On December 12, 1969 Barbara married her loving husband Robert (Bob) and was blessed with three step children. Both Barbara and Bob loved to travel and they took many wonderful vacations to amazing places such as; Egypt, Spain, New Mexico and New York. Later, Barbara and Bob followed their love of the lake and they moved to the Lake of the Ozarks where they spent many days with family and friends out on the water on the famous Pontoon Picnics. At the age of 40 Barbara discovered a love for dancing and she began taking ballet lessons. Later ,she dove into the world of art, where she found a new passion for painting . Barbara even won awards for her paintings through the Lake of the Ozarks painting clubs. After the passing of her husband, Barbara relocated to Independence, MO to be closer to her family, with whom she spent countless hours, playing cards, going to youth baseball games, and family get togethers. Barbara also loved to visit her family in Colorado and Texas as well. Barbara was an amazing woman who loved life. She never wasted a moment. She was always moving. She had a flair for fashion, loved to shop and was known for her sassy hats, bright scarfs and red lipstick. Barbara was a thoughtful woman who knew how to make everyone feel welcomed and loved, always greeting everyone with a hug. When Barbara entered the room the atmosphere changed. There was never a shortage of laughs when Barbara was there. She truly was a light, a ray of sunshine. And to all of those who love her, she will always be our beautiful "Ruby Red Lips" .
