Barbara Lucielle (Story) Andrew, age 72, born on June 27th, 1949 passed away on August 2nd, 2021. Barbara was raised in Independence and a graduate of Truman High School. After graduation she spent the majority of her adult life raising a family in Blue Springs, Missouri. Barbara had a wide range of career paths during her lifetime. She made beautiful wedding cakes, sugar eggs, and crafts. She worked as a medical assistant and in various accounts payable positions. Her final career path was with the State of Missouri helping retirement home residents navigate medicaid assistance. Throughout her various careers she always felt most fulfilled when working to serve others.
Barbara’s true passions were outside of work. She was the “neighborhood” mother providing a compassionate and listening ear to friends and family of all ages. Family friends always recall her genuine warmth and loving excitement when she welcomed them in her home. Most of all, everyone will remember her as an adventurous spirit with a love for life and a never ending desire to dance.
Barbara is survived by her two brothers, Eric Storey and Robert (Marlene) Story, as well as her three beloved children and their families. Eldest son Jason Andrew, wife Karen and their children Whitney, Bella, Rickey and Amber. Daughter Julie (Andrew) Adams, her husband Scott Adams and their children Natalie and Nathan. Youngest son Jeff Andrew, wife Kat and their children Noah, Brooklynn and Riley.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents William H. Story Jr. and Charlotte Roberta (Harland) Story, as well as her ex-husband and father of her children Richard Donald Andrew.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Alzheimer’s Associations https://www.alz.org/.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 6:30pm.
