Andrew was born August 26, 1939, to Delorus and Sture Johnson. His dad immigrated from Sweden when he was 17 years old. When he became a citizen, he changed his name from Johanson to Johnson because he wanted to be a true American. Andrew always would have liked to hold on to his Swedish heritage, but his dad left it behind except for the huge Christmas celebrations.
Andrew attended Guardian Angels Parish and attended grade school there. He attended Lillis High School and graduated n 1957 at the age of 16. He attended Findley Engineering college and worked at Vendo manufacturing as a spot welder. Andrew also worked from 1972 to 2007 for KC Power and Light.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1962. He was assigned to the USS Enterprise for the World Cruise Operation Sea Orbit. He made two cruises around the world on a peace keeping tour on the world's first nuclear aircraft carrier as an electrical switchgear operator. He loved many of the countries they visited especially France and Australia. One of his most proud moments was when two American ladies told him at one of the countries how proud they were seeing the carrier and their American Sailors come to port.
The things he held most dear was number 1 Traditional Catholic Faith and attending St. Patrick's Oratory. Number 2 his family: He met his wife, Charlotte, at Research School of Nursing in 1965. They were married on August 20, 1966, for 57 years. His two children were his greatest sense of pride, Andrea (Eric) Leader and Alex (Shelbi) Johnson. Nothing could compare to the love he had for his three grandchildren, Shane Leader, Noah and Juliana Johnson.
He loved music and sang in the Messiah when it was performed in Independence, Missouri. He was in the Fatima Choir and loved performing the beautiful traditional Catholic hymns wherever they traveled.
His next love was high performance cars and off roading in the mountains.
He never met a Stanger and made friends wherever he went. He will be missed so much.
