Alice "Bonnie" Bonita Dysart

With profound sadness shadowing the unshakeable solace flowing from the “Promise of the Passion,” the Dysart family invites you to celebrate the extraordinary life of Alice Bonita “Bonnie” Dysart, who peacefully passed away on December 6, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family and friends, at her bedside in the comfort of her daughter’s home.

Following her wishes, Bonnie will be placed beside her beloved husband, Robert Eugene “Gene” Dysart, her soulmate for nearly 50 years, on their Wedding Anniversary, May 31, 2025. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, 64131, followed by a celebration of life reception.

For even death will not separate them longer.

Bonnie was born on December 3, 1932, in Kansas City, Kansas, and spent much of her childhood in Longmont, Colorado. She moved to Kansas City in 1951, where she lived for the remainder of her life. After a successful career, Bonnie retired from Honeywell, Inc. in 1992, where she worked as an Inside Sales Correspondent for the Residential Division.

Bonnie’s life was a beautiful testament to faith, love, and unwavering devotion. A woman of deep compassion and service, she leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire those she touched. Throughout her near-century-long journey, she embodied the blessings of a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, sharing this faith with everyone she encountered. Her laughter, her music, and her infectious zest for life will be profoundly missed. Still, she will forever be cherished for the boundless love she gave to those she considered “family,” including the countless who affectionately called her "Momma D.”

A faithful and devoted member of Holmeswood Baptist Church (a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship), Bonnie served as an ordained deacon and beloved church community member for over 40 years. In 2020, She joined Eastside Church in Independence, MO., where she cherished the numerous luncheons, and events she enjoyed with her new friends and remained an active member and volunteer. Her volunteer work extended far beyond the church, touching many lives through her involvement in organizations such as the Missouri Branch of the National Congress of PTA, where she was honored with an Honorary Life membership, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, and the GFWC Homemakers Club of Hickman Mills. She also volunteered for Kansas City Hospice House, the Youth Friend program at Center School District, and co-chaired the Hickman Mills Youth for Christ Club.

Bonnie’s musical talents were legendary. If you could sing it, she could play it on the piano. She created countless memories of music-filled evenings, often accompanied by her sisters on the same piano as they “smoked” the keys. At the same time, other family members played trumpets, guitars, bass, banjo, and drums. Ragtime, jazz, and blues filled the air while neighbors danced under the stars on the patio. She also had the voice of an angel, and when she played and sang, the window to her soul flew open. Music was her soul’s language, and it continues to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.

Bonnie was an avid reader and a passionate card player, and she loved being part of her bridge and pinochle clubs. Above all, she treasured time with her family and friends, offering them her boundless love, encouragement, and wisdom.

Bonnie is survived by her five children: Blake Eugene Dysart (Warsaw, MO), Cheri Lane Brazelton and her husband Tim (Booneville, MO), Bonnie Anne Bang and her husband Larry (Independence, MO), David Barnett Dysart and his wife Nicole (Meraux, LA), and Lewis William Dysart (Warsaw, MO). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 spouses, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews - including Anne Akers-Benvenuto and her husband Art, Charles Akers and his wife Diane (the only living relatives from the Akers family) - and countless dear friends.

The Dysart family extends their deepest appreciation to Hospice of Kansas City. The care, compassion, and joy your team of professionals brought a family in crisis allowed us to celebrate her 92nd Birthday and Christmas Season with laughter and song. We cannot thank you enough.
