V. John Bowlin, 79, of Shawnee, KS., passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 3, 2011. He will forever be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. John was born on April 27, 1931 in Kansas City, KS., to Roscoe G. and Vernie E. (Hutchison) Bowlin. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1949, and earned a degree in Metallurgy Engineering from the University Of Kansas. John worked for the Federal Government for 25 years before retiring in 1992. He served his country honorably during the Korean and Vietnam wars working as a Hospital Corpsman, in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was honored with a purple heart and bronze star for his dedicated service to his country. John was an active member of Shawnee Park Christian Church. He was a friend to all and devoted his time and talent in woodworking. John was an avid KU fan, and enjoyed the fine arts. John is preceded in death by his parents, son: Daniel Bowlin, and sister Verna Jean Camper. Survivors include two daughters: Shelly Jensen of Springhill, KS., Rebecca Bowlin of Raymore, MO., two sons: Robert Bowlin and his wife Dana of Kansas City, MO., and Thomas Bowlin of Shawnee, KS. He will be sadly missed by his four grandsons: Ryan Bowlin, Shea Bowlin, William Bowlin and Tyler Jensen. Along with one great grandson: Dakota Bowlin. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 12:00 noon. Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Shawnee Park Christian Church 16500 Midland Drive Shawnee Mission, KS. 66217. Inurnment with Military Honors in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, Friday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee Park Christian Church.
