Ms. Mary Nadine Woodard was born May 25, 1939 in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Floyd and Dorell Cannon. Both parents and two brothers, Paul Nelson Cannon and Floyd Cannon, Jr. preceded her in death. She departed this life June 24, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Nadine was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas public school system and was a proud graduate of Sumner High School Class of 1957. She later continued her education and graduated with her Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Mary.
Mary Nadine accepted Christ at an early age, joined Jerusalem Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. H.R. Nero. That church is now Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church and at the time under the leadership of Rev. A.J. Foster and is now under the leadership of Rev. Robert Rogers. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the church. She was Secretary of the church, Condolence Clerk and a member of the Finance Committee. Mary Nadine served as President of the usher board for many years until her health started to fail. She then held the title of President Emeritus.
Mary Nadine was united in marriage to Vernon Woodard Sr. To this union two children were born, Teresa Yolanda Williams and Vernon Lee Woodard, Jr. After over twenty years, this marriage was later dissolved.
She was employed by Southwestern Bell/AT&T as a Communications Consultant. She retired after over 30 years of faithful service to care for her mother.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Teresa Williams, of Olathe, Kansas and one son, Vernon “PeeWee Woodard, Jr., of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother, Sylvester Ray Cannon (Beverly), of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren; Maurice Williams, Jr. (Hope), of Overland Park, Kansas; Marquis Williams, of Lenexa, Kansas and Vernon Woodard, III (Kayleigh), of Olathe, Kansas; four great grandchildren, a nephew, nieces and a host of relatives and friends.
A visitation for Mary will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1610 N 10th St, Kansas City, KS 66102. The service will be at 11:00 AM at Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1610 N 10th St, Kansas City, KS 66102.
