Mary Catherine Lawrence

Mary Catherine Lawrence, 90, passed away April 14, 2017 at Santa Marta Retirement Home in Olathe, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1150 N. 38th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, April 17 at St. Patrick Church, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Patrick Church, 1086 N. 94th St., KCK 66112, or the Serra Club (same address).

Mary was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 20, 1926, daughter of Lawrence Patrick (Pete) Martin and Mary Catherine Reynolds. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas, until she moved to Santa Marta Retirement Home. Mary graduated from Bishop Ward High School. On January 27, 1947, she married John Edward Lawrence at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. She attended St. Mary’s College, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree, and later received a Master’s degree of Education from UMKC. Mary worked as a teacher and counselor until she retired. Her hobbies were playing golf, traveling, and playing bridge.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Lawrence, her parents, Pete and Mary Martin, her sister, Patricia Eker, and her granddaughter, Melissa Heflin. She is survived by four sons and their wives, Jack and Mary Lawrence, KCK, Dennis and Joannie Lawrence, Ft. Garland, Colorado, Bob and Pat Lawrence, Trinity, Texas, and Jim and Margaret Lawrence, Leawood, Kansas; one daughter, Maryanne and Craig Roepke, Leawood, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Mary had a long and happy life and will be greatly missed by friends and family.
