Marie Helen Macan went Home to the Lord on August 27, 2010. Marie was born November 14, 1911 to Izadore and Mary (Medved) Macan in Kansas City, Kansas and was the last survivor of their six children. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1931. After High School she did secretarial work for various firms in Kansas City. She passed a Civil Service examination for the Department of Defense c. 1945 and worked for the next forty years for the Navy and Army as a civilian secretary. She served in Hawii, occupied Japan, Washington, D.C., and was in Germany for over 30 years. Over the years she received many commendations for her excellent work and served with officers in the highest echelons of the Army. Marie never married. She returned to Kansas City after her retirement and took up residence in Bonner Springs in the late '80's. She lived there until 2005 when she became a resident of Providence Place in KCK. Marie was a devoted servant and lifelong member of the Catholic Church. Most recently attending the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shawnee, Ks. Marie is survived by sister-in-law Nina (Macan) Liston, three nephews; Delbert Coffelt and Kenneth Coffelt (Patti), and John Macan, Jr. (Janice), nieces; Margret Hathaway (Arthur) and Nancy Liston and Edward Macan, Joseph Macan, and Carl Macan. She is also survived by great, great-great, and great-great-great Nieces and Nephews. Marie's visitation will be at 6:00P.M. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10AM Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5501 Monticello Rd., Shawnee, Ks 66226. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Catholic Charities Hospice. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, KS.
