Jewell “Dick” Franklin Richards of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on September 11, 2020. He was 91 years old. Dick was born on July 15, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas to Samuel Edwards Richards and Bertha Eloise (Groves) Richards. Dick spent his childhood growing up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Washington High School in Wyandotte County. After his education, Dick worked most of his life as a technician for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Kansas City, where he worked for 43 years before retirement. In February 1950, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Seutter.
Dick enjoyed spending his free time outdoors and doing outdoor activities such as golfing, fishing, and scuba diving with his buddy, Charlie Ray. Dick was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He also was a huge KC Chiefs and KC Royals fan. He was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; son Douglas E. Richards; brothers, D.C. Richards, and Ed Richards; and sister, Maxine Howard.
Left to cherish Dick’s memory is his wife of 70 years, Phyllis Richards; daughter, Dianne (Kenny) Gier; grandchildren, Kathryn (Jasen) Currie, Dainna (Cody Henik) Gier, and Jacob (Vanessa) Richards; great-grandchildren, Hayden Richards, Rylee Currie, and L.J. Currie; along with many other family members and friends.
