Jake L. Taylor, 78, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday December 19 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that any contributions may be made to Kansas Hunter Education in care of Kansas Wildlife and Parks, 512 SE 25th Ave., Pratt, Kansas 67124.
Jake was born June 8, 1934 in Liberty Missouri and was a lifelong resident of Kansas City. He attended Northwest Jr. High School. After junior high he worked construction until he was old enough to enlist in the Marines. After his service in the Marines, he became a truck driver for Kaw Roofing and eventually a roofer. He began working at the Board of Public Utilities in 1962 and retired as Assistant Superintendent in 1992. Jake was a member of Tri-County Rod and Gun Club, the American Legion, a charter instructor for Hunter Safety Education, and a lifelong member of the NRA and VFW. He enjoyed shooting, hunting, camping, and anything to do with the outdoors. Jake is also a past member of IBEW.
Jake is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Lillian Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pat Taylor of the home; three children, Mark Taylor of Lawrence, Kansas, Debra Seely and her husband Brad of Louisburg, Kansas and Steve Taylor of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren, Nick Seely and his wife Megan, Megan Seely and Rachel Taylor; two great granddaughters, Chelbi Seely and Cheyenne Seely; two brothers, William Taylor of Rapid City, South Dakota and Joseph Taylor of Kansas City, Kansas; and two sisters, Mary Tate of Kansas City, Kansas and Pam Failer and her husband Rich of Kearney, Missouri.
