Herbert was born November 5, 1928, in Calumet, OK to William Robert & Anna Evalena (Tech) Dearing as 1 of 9 children. Herb farmed in Oklahoma before coming to Kansas, he then worked for a few years at General Motors before opening Herb’s D-X gas stations in KCK into the 70’s. He retired after 23 years working for A.E. West Petroleum Co. in 1993. Although retired, he was still push mowing his own lawn at age 91.
Herb married the love of his life, Joyce Ferne Scott of McLouth on Sept. 29th, 1951, in Bentonville, AR. Together they were members of the First Baptist Church in McLouth, KS. Survivors include a daughter Diana Shade, a grandson Jeff (Kathrine) Shade, a granddaughter Lori (Shane) Wampler, all of McLouth, 5 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Herb was preceded in death by Joyce, his parents, brothers: W.N. Dearing, John Dearing, Leslie Dearing, and sisters: Alice Dillon, Juanita Dye, Ruth Maxon, Laureta Schumacher and Ella Allen.
Herb enjoyed traveling and visited many foreign countries and Islands with his bride.
