Guy Edmond Stanley III

Guy E Stanley, III was born in Kansas City, Kansas on November 19, 1937 to Guy E Stanley, Jr and Thelma (Howard) Stanley. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1955. He married Nancy Joan Nelson on May 16, 1959. They met on a blind date in which Guy was two hours late due to his duck blind flooding off the Kaw River. Nancy had gone to bed thinking Guy would never show, however, he did show and convinced his future father in law who was also a duck hunter that his lateness was necessary in order to save his duck blind. Guy served in the National Guard for the United States Army from 1959 - 1962. Shortly after getting married, Guy and Nancy moved to Colorado. Guy managed the concrete trucks and operations to build Falcon Stadium at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Guy and Nancy rode motorcycles, snow skied, and loved to shop antique stores and garage sales. Guy was an avid Duck Hunter and champion duck caller. His house was always open for anyone to drop by, have a drink, and enjoy the view. Guy and Nancy owned Baskin Robbins from 1976 - 2006, along with several other small businesses. Guy worked as a general contractor building steel buildings. They raised two children, Kristin and Mark Stanley. Nancy Stanley died of cancer at the age of 57 in 1996, just before they planned to build their dream home off the Platte River complete with a duck blind.

Guy stayed in Colorado until moving back to Kansas in 2004 to be with his long time partner Sharon Schick. Guy loved sitting outside with drink, always Scotch, dancing, golfing, hunting, family, and his dogs. He never hesitated to offer advice whether anyone asked for it or not. Guy loved watching his grandsons play soccer, baseball, lacrosse and teaching them to hunt. He was quick with a tease, smile or joke. Guy was so proud of his brother, Ron Stanley who successfully ran Loring Quarries and the Stanley Farm.

Guy leaves behind Kris (daughter) and Kelly Boyle, Mark Stanley (son), 4 grandsons, Ian Boyle, Torin Stanley, Evan Boyle, and Carrick Stanley. A brother Ron Stanley, sister Sharon Moore (Bob) and sister Janie Reilly, brother in law Monty Nelson (Susan), nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his partner of over 20 years, Sharon Schick and her family, Cindy Scribner, Sherrie Downing (Mike) and Lori Donnelly (Pat), He would have never wanted to be cared for by others as he preferred to be the caretaker. His heart was big, his humor sharp and he could talk his way in or out of any situation. He always told us he was going to live to be 100. He may not have made it to 100 but he lived 100 years in his 85 years of life. He is now sailing off into the sunset on a cruise ship with an open bar, dancing with all the beautiful girls.
