Fredrick “Fred” Oscar Peterson, 91, passed away February 4, 2015. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 14th from 10:00-11:00 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Hospice, 7735 Washington Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
Fred was born December 23, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas to Julian Oscar and Emily Henrietta (Erickson) Peterson. He attended Wyandotte High School before joining the Army Air Corps, now the Air Force. Fred was a B17 tail gunner in WWII. When Fred was younger, he pitched a no-hitter in fast pitch softball. On December 14, 1943, Fred married Margaret “Peggy” Brown. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 years in KCK before retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Army Reserve’s 35th Division Association out of Topeka, KS, the United Postal Workers Union, as well as National Association for Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). In his free time, he enjoyed ball room dancing, golfing, bowling and throwing horseshoes at family events.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Emily Peterson; brothers, Edward W. & Julian J. Peterson; sister, Evelyn Mae Peterson Dawson; and grandson, Scott Charles Naylor. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 71 years, Peggy; son, Fred (Cathy) Peterson; daughters, Connie L. (Winston) Naylor and Nickie A. (Tony) Perry; 4 grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren.
