Betty J. Schlup, 86, passed away at home on March 14, 2018 in Kansas City, KS. Betty was born March 11, 1932 in Kansas City, KS to her parents, Matthew and Helen Belobrajdic. She graduated from Wyandotte High School as a member of the class of 1950. Betty met and married David J. Schlup while she was a clerk at an accounting firm and he was a truck driver. The Schlups made their home in Kansas City, KS and later settled in Topeka, KS, where Dave worked as a bus driver and Betty assisted as his para. In her free time, Betty found enjoyment in mowing her grass, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, listening to her favorite Mollie-B polka music, and traveling in the motor home with extended family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Rolling Hills Christian Church while living in Topeka. Betty will be remembered as a supportive and loving wife and mother, loving grandmother, and a very special great-grandmother.
Mrs. Schlup is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and William Bonfield of Edwardsville, KS, Nancy and Joe Bowen of Topeka, KS; her sister, Helen Hays; twelve grandchildren, Katie Williamson (Nick), Jordanne Bonfield, Nicole Winsor Sylvester (Bob DeFries), Joey Bowen (Jessie), Shannon Miller (Buster), Mandie Evans (Travis), Savannah Hall (Jeremy), Billy Bonfield (Jessica), Michala Bonfield, Joshua Bonfield, Caleb Bonfield, and Daniel Bonfield; sixteen great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Helen Belobrajdic; her beloved husband of 47 years, David J. Schlup; and her grandson, Ryan Bowen.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm, Monday, March 19th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS. Funeral services will be 10:00am, Tuesday, March 20th at the funeral home. A private burial ceremony will be held in Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ascend Hospice.
