Arthur was born in Ringgold, Louisiana on October 25, 1936. Upon graduation from Ringgold High School, he relocated to Kansas City, Kansas. He accepted Christ at an early age, attending Evergreen Baptist Church.
He was the seventh child out of 13 children. His parents were David King and Louisiana Egans. Arthur married Virdean James and to this union, one son was born, Arthur Byron Egans. Arthur was a master machinist. After working as a cook, he discovered how much money the machinist were making. He decided to go to Technical School, to learn the trade. He spent 33 years as a machinist. Sixteen years at Pittman Manufacturer Co. and seventeen years at Continental Disc.
Arthur enjoyed traveling, returning to Ringgold each summer loading the car with snacks and his son. He loved sports. He never missed any of his son’s football games, track meets or wrestling matches. He was also a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan. He loved good music and sang constantly. He was once a member of Antioch Church, where he sang in the choir. Arthur was a giver, blessing many charities over the years. He donated monthly to his hometown church, Evergreen. His best friend, happened to be his younger sister, Aretha. Arthur and Aretha remained close, she having moved to Kansas City, because he did. They talked almost daily.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Son-Arthur Byron Egans; Sister-Aretha Egans; Grandsons- Christopher Egans (Michigan) and Brandon Egans; Great Granddaughter- Melody Egans; A host of nieces and nephews; And many loved ones who admired the patriarch of the family.
A visitation for Arthur will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be immediately following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
