Leonard Gascon, 73, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma on July 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Leonard was born on January 23, 1950, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of James and Honorata (Rita) Gascon. He graduated from Farrington High School in 1968, and attended Honolulu Community College and Pierce College in Tacoma. He married Shirley Carlos on June 28, 1975.
The family, along with many friends, have lost a wonderful human being. His passions included golfing, fishing, billiards, camping, gardening, gambling, karaoke, dancing, watching sports on TV, fixing cars, crafting, and spending time with family. He lived to make others happy. His sense of humor and love of life were contagious and will be greatly missed.
Leonard’s 35-year career with United Airlines took him across the United States and other parts of the world. He began in 1970 in Honolulu, as a food service clerk. In 1972, he transferred to Sea- Tac, to be closer to Shirley. In 1985, he accepted a ramp serviceman position, which took him to Chicago. He enjoyed being part of the United Airlines family and was a strong union member. After a successful career, he retired in 2005.
Although dedicated to his career, he was even more invested in his family and community. This was evident in the many hats he wore, whether it be coaching, mentoring, fundraising, volunteering, fixing people’s vehicles or homes, Leonard would be there to lead or lend a helping hand.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family: wife, Shirley; sons, Vincent, Nicholas, and Leonard; mother, Rita; brothers, Reginald, Garrick, and Brian; grandchildren, Malia, Evelyn, Vincent, Jameson, and Alina; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. He is now reunited in Heaven with his father James Gascon and sister May Gascon Tanoura. His wisdom, love, and spirit will live on through the countless lives he has touched.
