After attending high school, Tom attended Florida College (then known as Florida Christian College) as well as Florida Southern College. In 1963, Tom joined the United States Air Force where he served four years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam during 1966 and early 1967.
Tom worked at United Technologies (PWA/TPM) for 31 years and another two years for United Engineering as an outsourced Project Engineer at the PWA plant. After retirement, he spent nine years working part time as a construction inspector for Lost Tree Village. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, both in Jupiter and at his mountain home in Ellijay, Georgia. He loved going to his mountain home to see the leaves change in the fall, and seeing the abundant wildlife that would stroll through the yard. Tom was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Jupiter-Tequesta since 1971 and attended services part-time at the Ellijay First United Methodist Church in Ellijay, Georgia since 2008.
He is predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Cunningham; his father, Thomas Francis Cunningham; his mother, Dorothy Way Yates and his stepfather, William (Burns) Yates.
Tom is survived by his son, Thomas Francis Cunningham III; his daughter, Danielle Brancato; his son-in-law, Brian Brancato and his grandchildren, Dylan Brancato, Ethan Brancato, and Julian Cunningham.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Jupiter-Tequesta on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida at a later date.
