Susan Anderson Nelson died peacefully with her family by her side on September 10, 2022.
Born to Herbert Theodore Anderson and Ellen Beatrice Smith on June 28, 1944 in Newton, Massachusetts, Susan graduated from William Smith College in 1966 and became a high school teacher in Boston and in Atlanta.
In 1968, she married Lathrop B. Nelson, Jr., and they raised their two children, Christina and Lathrop, in Rosemont, Pennsylvania. Susan became a realtor at Prudential Fox Roach in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and she took pride in helping people find not just a house, but a home.
Susan spent her summers on Point Connett, Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, where she sailed Beetle Cats and taught sailing at the Angelica Yacht Club, and, later, where she shared her love of Point Connett and sailing with her children and grandchildren.
Susan and her partner of 27 years, Jay B. Davis, moved to Jupiter, Florida, in 2005, where they enjoyed travelling and playing golf at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club and the Bald Peak Colony Club in New Hampshire.
She is survived by her sister, Linda Kristan (John) of Morrisville, Vermont, and her daughter Christina Weissensee of Cohasset, Massachusetts, and son Lathrop B. Nelson, III (Erica Broennle) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and her grandchildren, whom she adored and whose pictures filled her home with love: Adair Julienne Nelson, Benjamin Anderson Weissensee, Conrad Anderson Nelson, Thomas Windisch Weissensee, and William Lathrop Nelson, her nephew Bruce Sammis (Sarah), niece Laura Pearce (Thomas) and their families, and her partner Jay.
She is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Pauline Sammis.
Donations may be made in Susan’s memory to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org). There will be a memorial service and private burial in the spring in Mattapoisett and celebrations of life will be scheduled for later dates at Jonathan’s Landing and Bald Peak.
