Stephen A. Massey, 65, of Sarasota, Fla passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 13, 2017. He was born in Waterville to John “Steve” and Bernadette (Champine) Massey. He spent most of his life in the Waterville area, graduating from Waterville High School (1969) and the University of New Hampshire (1973). Stephen helped manage and run Steve’s Restaurant for many years. He was well known to his customers, friends, and employees for his amiability and ready smile. Steve played baseball, hockey and helped coach his daughters’ teams. He had a love for New England sports, animals, boating, cooking, oldies, singing, and family. He was compassionate, always good natured and had a heart of gold. Steve deeply loved and raised two beautiful daughters, Aimee and Christina Massey. They were his pride and joy. He is survived by his mother Bernadette Massey; sister, Sandra Walters, brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Brigitte Massey; he has several nieces and nephews: John, Katy, and Lauren Massey, Mathew Walters, David and Kelly Butler, Katie and Alex Grenier. Steve diligently followed their lives and sporting events and loved them all dearly. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins that he deeply cared about. He also has a special relationship with Claudette Massey, the mother of his daughters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 24, at 11 am, Notre Dame Church, Waterville, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to the Waterville Humane Society, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901, or Mid Maine Homeless Shelter, 19 Colby Streel, Waterville, ME 04901.
