Phil Van Campen, age 79, of Lantana, died on Thursday, May 8, 2014. Phil, beloved son of Alden Van Campen and Dorothy Cole Van Campen, was born on June 22, 1934, in New York City. Phil spent his young life in Corning, New York. In 1954 he graduated from George School in Newton, Pennsylvania. Subsequently he spent four years as a seaman in the United States Navy from which he was honorably discharged in 1958. In 1962 he earned his business Degree from The Nichols Business College in Dudley, Massachusetts. His life’s work was in the construction business. He served as Vice President of the Corning Building Company, Corning, New York. In 1970, he moved his family to West Palm Beach to join Florida Ideal Cement, Inc. After a number of years he joined the International Cement Corporation, La Farge North America serving as District Manager until his retirement in 1999.
Phil leaves behind his beloved wife, Jackie Crader Van Campen, his two sons, Colin Van Campen of Stuart, FL and Philip Van Campen Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL, his grandson Sawyer and granddaughter Carson of Stuart, FL. His sister, Harriet Van Campen Hogan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL., his beloved stepson Marty Whitson and wife Peggy of St. Charles, Illinois, his step grandchildren Cicely and Brian Jones and Justin (Jennifer) Whitson, and five step great grandchildren; Tyler, Isabel, Jacob, Gage, and Caelan.
Phil, you are wonderdul, beautiful, kind person. You have been and will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew you. We will miss you dearly but you will live in our hearts forever! May God keep you close to his heart! Rest assured we will all meet soon again.
