Paul Edward Nester

Paul Edward Nester, 79, passed away on July 8, 2024. He was born in Richlands, Virginia in November of 1944 although he spent much of his childhood as a resident of Bluefield, West Virginia, graduating from Bluefield High School. In 1967 he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving as an airplane mechanic. He served one tour in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his discharge from the Army as a Specialist 5, he enrolled in Virginia Commonwealth University earning an Associate’s Degree in Engineering. Paul worked as a mechanical engineer for a period of time before partnering with others to start the engineering firm, Control Inc. He served as President of Control Inc. for 34 years, spending the majority of his adult life in Richmond, Virginia.

In November of 1969, Paul married Ruth Brammer. They were happily married for 54 years and had two daughters: Kristin and Lindsay. Some of his best memories came from his days spent on Gwynn’s Island harvesting oysters, eating crabs, and fishing with family and friends on his pier. Over the years, he also enjoyed playing volleyball at the Richmond Volley Club, and collecting coins as a member of the Richmond Coin Club.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Nester. He is survived by his wife and daughters, their spouses (Josh and Jeff), as well as his grandchildren: Timothy, Connor, Charlie, Dawn and Sydney. Other survivors include his siblings: Gwen Arnold (Emory), Howard Nester Jr. (Lucy), Linda Stevens (John deceased 2013), and Daniel Nester (Judy) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation for Paul to be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458. A graveside service will occur on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 FL-7, Wellington, FL 33449.
