Michael J. Benjamin MD

Renowned obstetrician and gynecologist, and licensed pilot Michael Benjamin, M.D., passed away peacefully at the age of 84 in Jupiter, Florida, on November 18, 2024, due to complications from a fall. He was surrounded by family.

Dr. Benjamin, or “Dr. B” as he was lovingly referred to by his patients and staff, was a passionate champion for women’s healthcare rights and the needs of his patients. He was adored by his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family, as well as his patients, staff, and colleagues. He had so many incredible attributes, and he earned the trust and respect of the medical community as the expert to whom doctors and clinicians would refer even the most complex cases. He considered all cases with an open mind and superior intellect.

Born in New York City and raised in Queens Village, Dr. Benjamin was a graduate of Martin Van Buren High School in Queens, received his undergraduate degree from New York University in 1962, and medical degree from the State University of New York, Downstate Health Sciences Center in 1967. He served an internship and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Queens Hospital Center from 1967-1971.

Dr. Benjamin served as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1971-1973. He was certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1973 and re-certified in 1996. He was a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of several surgical societies.

Dr. Benjamin was in the private practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Broward County, Florida, since 1973 and delivered hundreds of babies over the course of his decades-long career. Dr. Benjamin received countless awards and accolades and became increasingly specialized in in-oIice gynecologic surgery and introduced many innovations to the community. Among other hospital affiliations, he was chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwest Medical Center from 1986-1990 and was on staff at Coral Springs Medical Center since it opened its doors in 1987. Since 2017, Dr. Benjamin had the honor of passing his knowledge to the next generation of physicians as a Voluntary Clinical Clerkship Assistant Professor for Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.

A gentle man, who deeply loved his soulmate Lynda, his family, and his clinic family, he will continue to live on in us as we follow the path he cleared for us and the principles he planted in our hearts and minds. He was truly one of a kind and treated each person as his equal, even though he was a giant in our midst. He will be sorely missed.

Dr. Benjamin is survived by his loving wife of over four decades, Lynda Littrell Benjamin; a daughter, Stacey Benjamin; a son, Scott Benjamin; a stepdaughter, Ashley Cass Morse; five grandchildren, Emily Guzman, Sydney Benjamin, Audrey Cass, Ashlyn Morse, and Alexander Morse and a great-granddaughter, Leilani Guzman.

He was predeceased by his stepson, Aaron Cass; a grandson; Gregory Guzman and granddaughter, Melanie Guzman.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458. A time to share will occur at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. A burial is private will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dr. Benjamin’s memory to Planned Parenthood or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
