James Ray Higgins, 90, of Johnstown, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Mount Carmel East Hospital. He was born on February 26, 1933 in Toler, KY, a son to the late Roy and Dovie (Spriggs) Higgins. James was a U.S. Army veteran and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He truly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. James was a founding and faithful member of Cross Point Christian Church of New Albany. He is survived by his loving daughters, Judy (Jeff) Walters and Annika (Lonnie) McClish; grandchildren, Dylan, Gracen, Nolan and Ella McClish, and Hannah Walters; great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Everly McClish; and a host of other family, friends and loved ones. In addition to his parents, James is also preceded in death by his wife, Mearl Higgins; daughter, Diana Higgins; and brother, Douglas Higgins. Family and friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Cross Point Christian Church, 10659 Johnstown Rd., New Albany, OH 43054. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church with Pastor Cody Clark officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Point Christian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in James memory.
