Prof. Vishwa M. Sakhare, of Johnson City, TN passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024.
“Daddy” is survived by sons Raj, Ravi, and Anil, and younger sister Dr Vibhavati B Khanapuri (India). Grandchildren Ashwin, Anisha, Julian, Olivia, and Devin; Daughters-in-Law Amy and Shruti. May his memory endure with his entire extended family, numerous students, and countless friends whom he cherished as much as his own.
He was born in Belgaum, India to Prof. M.R. Sakhare and Mrs. P.M. Sakhare. He was married to his devoted wife Sheela V. Sakhare (1938-2015) for nearly 60 years. Dr Vishwa Sakhare immigrated to the United States in 1959 and retired as Professor of Mathematics Emeritus at East Tennessee State University.
Vishwa had an enduring passion for education, teaching, and mentorship well beyond the classroom. He advocated for the underdog whether it was socioeconomic, athletics, or the plant and animal world. His most enjoyable hobbies were spending time with family and friends, gardening, bird watching, and travel. We have many fond memories of him as a tennis player, puzzle builder, and Sudoku enthusiast. He remained forever loyal both to his mother country, India, and to his adopted country, USA.
Visitation is from 11-1PM on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Monte Vista Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00PM. A Private Family Committal Service and Interment will be held in the Garden of Meditation at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
