Our dear mother, Rosalie Deci, peacefully passed away on July 22, 2024, at the age of 97. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community in Jensen Beach where she lived for 56 years, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. Rosalie’s legacy of family who she leaves behind includes her son, Paul Deci (Marguerite) of Orlando, FL; her daughter, Ellen Nimmons (William) of Tallahassee, FL; her brother, Michael Grella, (Helen) of Hicksville, NY; and her brother, Gerald Grella (Evelyn) of Smithtown NY. She also leaves behind six wonderful grandchildren, 3 great granddaughters, and one great grandson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dave Deci; her son, David M. Deci; her parents, Rocco and Teresa Grella, sister, Marie Kerbs; and brothers, Vincent, George, and John Grella.
Rosalie’s innate curiosity and thirst for knowledge led her to her first full-time job at Doubleday Publishing in New York following her graduation from Westbury High School in Westbury, NY. But it would be Rosalie’s childhood memories of helping to care for her siblings that led her to what she considered her greatest accomplishment of life which was “raising three good children and six good grandchildren”.
Rosalie’s Catholic faith was the foundation of her life from her early childhood when she considered being a nun: however, that changed after meeting her husband, Dave, in 1946 who brought adventure and love to her life during their 67 years of marriage.
After raising her children, Rosalie worked part-time as a church secretary for St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Jensen Beach. She continued her commitment to her faith by dedicating countless hours of her time to volunteering in the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store as well as assisting with cleaning the church altar and preparing religious linens.
Rosalie enjoyed animals, nature, historical fiction, and gardening as well as had a passion for cleaning. She was known for her kind heart and love of family, serving as the heart and soul of her family. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors, not out of obligation, but because it was who she was. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Flowers and/or memorial contributions to Catholic Charity Relief Services (support.crs.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org) are equally welcome.
