I think of John everyday when I pass Kentallon in Ballantrae. He was such a gentleman. Hope that Ruth and the rest of the family is doing well.

A long time ago I moved a few doors away from the Johns family.  I was honored to be asked to babysit for the younger children.  I remember well Mr Johns making me feel I was important and welcome in my new neighborhood. I realize his kindness and calmness is in all his children to this day. My sincere sympathies to you all.   Your cherished memories will sustain you!

I will always remember the easy manor and insightful wisdom Bob was always willing to share whether in a business meeting, relaxing along a shoreline or consoling a person in need.  A true gift from God and lasting legacy for all who were fortunate enough to know him.          

Whenever I hear the word CLASS the first person I think of is Bob Johns.

Dear Johns Family and the Catawba Cliffs Go Kart Association,

We are deeply moved by the passing of our Lifetime Achievement Award member. Bob 'Honcho' Johns was a  1959 founding member our our illustrious association and served as President on several occasions .  In fact, he won many races, including a 1961 closely contested finish. While he was always a gentleman at tennis, sailing or in his business affairs, his demeanor on the Go Kart track was always competitive. The minutes of the July 15, 1989 meeting stated he would generously provide sweatshirt uniforms for the next meeting.  His family always hosted the racers at their Catawba Cliffs cottage, where the annual minutes, traveling trophies and other race memorabilia reside. The minutes of the March 1993 are signed by Honcho with W.O.M.A. (Winner of Many Awards). He certainly was a winner with our family and will be sorely missed. We know that heaven will be a better place with Honcho's sense of humor, generous spirit and dedication to quality family experiences.

We were sorry to hear of Bob's death.   He brings back many wonderful memories of racing Thistle's at Leatherlips in Columbus, Ohio.  Bob was always a great sailor and hard to beat even though most ot the time he sailed single handled.   Our last visit was in Florida, where he introduced me to racing model sailboats.  Bob was always great to be with as he always had a smile.  I am sure he will be a welcome addition to our Lord in heaven.   Our best regards to the family as I am sure he will be missed greatly. WE COULD NOT BELIEVE OUR LUCK WHEN WE FIRST MEET THE JOHNS IN 1991 AT THE ISLAND CLUB.  WHEN WE FIRST MEET THEM YOU KNOW, WHAT AN OUTSTANDING COUPLE THEY WERE. THEY HAD ABSOLUTE INTEGRITY AND COMPASSION AT THE VERY BEST.
BOB BELIEVED IN HIMSELF AND HE KNEW HIS STRENGTH, WHICH WERE MANY AND NEVER QUIT TRYING TO IMPROVE.  HE WAS A WONDERFUL BUSINESS MAN AS WELL AS A HUSBAND, FATHER, SALIOR, TENNIS PLAYER AND FRIEND.

There are many reasons I’m so fortunate to have grown up in Grandview and with the sport of tennis. One of the big ones was all the great people I got to meet and know. I’m thankful that included Bob Johns and his wonderful family. My sincere sympathies at this difficult time.

After we moved to Ballantrae in 2013, we soon realized how fortunate we were to have Bob and Ruth as our neighbors.  We immediately became best friends.  No surprise to anyone who knew them.

Bob was a frequent visitor whenever he noticed me working around the yard.  He was my personal “Quality Control Inspector” and always offered kind words of encouragement.  Never a brief conversation with Bob.  We went on and on with our solutions to the world’s problems.  

Birthday and anniversary dinners at our house were special and always concluded with Lindor Truffles,  a Bob favorite.  On return from our Christmas visits with family in Houston, Bob always anticipated our delivery of Texas ruby red grapefruit.  We never disappointed.

We were fortunate to be able to visit with Bob and Ruth following their move to Palm City.  We were so pleased they seemed happy.

Our last conversation before we traveled north for the summer, Bob and I planned to get together in the fall on his sailing day.  Sadly, that will not happen.

Our grief is overwhelming as we try to remember the good times we spent together.

Dear Jerry and Jill:

So sorry to hear about the passing of Jill's father.   I never met him, but I noticed he enjoyed sailing, which has been a favorite activity of mine for several years, when I go with a friend who has a nice sail boat.  Look forward to seeing you both at our 50th class reunion next year.
