Flora, also nicknamed Flavy, was a true Floridian. She was born on August 2, 1926, into a pioneer family as the daughter of Inman and Ruth Inez (Mole) Weeks in St. Petersburg, FL and spent her childhood and much of her adulthood on the shores of Lake Okeechobee. She graduated from Pahokee High School, class of 1944. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class, and from there went on to the nursing school at Duke University in Durham North Carolina. She graduated from Duke as an RN in 1947.
While at Duke, she met her first husband, Edward Hamilton, Sr, who was studying medicine there. With him, she moved to El Paso, Texas, for his army duty. From there they moved to Orlando, Gainesville, North Branford, Connecticut, and Lake Worth, Florida. They had five children together. Over the course of all these moves, she pursued many volunteer opportunities, as well as a full-time job of raising five children who averaged two years apart.
After divorce in 1968, she remained single for a while, until her old Pahokee friend, Clifton (Tiny)Todd came courting. They were married in 1972 and lived on the coast of Palm Beach County for many years. With that marriage came four stepchildren, whom she has treated as her own over the years. She is survived by nine children and stepchildren: Edward Hamilton, Jr, (Chris), Lelah Hamilton Marzi (Jacques), Catherine Hamilton Saunders (Stephen), Patrick Hamilton (Deby), Mark Hamilton (Barbara), and Paula Todd, Nola Todd Goodchild, Clifton Todd, and her dear sister-in-law, Vera Weeks. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to Tiny, she was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Murray, her stepdaughter Mary Beth Todd Stevenson, and many dear friends.
In 1990, she and Tiny decided to return to their roots in Pahokee, Florida, and moved into her childhood home at 719 Bacom Point Road. They involved themselves in the community there right away.
With Tiny’s passing in 1997, she pursued the continuation of the real estate business he had established, Todd Realty, and earned her Broker’s license. She maintained this business until illness forced its sale in 2008.
After her successful recovery from this illness, she returned to Pahokee to act as an agent for Todd Realty. She was also active with Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, PEO sorority, and Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Pahokee, where she served as Senior Warden and Altar Guild president.
In 2010, she moved to Micanopy, FL, to be closer to her children there. True to form, she became immediately very active in the community there, acting as Docent for the Micanopy Historical Museum, teaching in the after-school tutoring program at the library, and serving on the Altar Guild at Church of the Mediator in Micanopy. She formed many lasting friendships there.
Due to age-related concerns, she decided to move to an assisted living facility in Jensen Beach, FL in 2021, where she lived until her peaceful death on March 12, 2022, with her granddaughter, Natalie, at her side, and surrounded by her books and photographs of all the people in her life whom she loved.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 14, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2303 NE Seaview Drive, Jensen Beach, Florida. A luncheon will follow. Internment of the ashes will be at Port Mayaca Cemetery, next to her husband, Tiny, and close to her many
family and deceased friends. She had requested that some of her ashes be interned at Church of The Mediator in Micanopy, Florida, and later arrangements will be made for her request.
Those who wish to remember Flora in a special way may make contributions in her memory to All Saints Episcopal Church at the above address or to Church of The Mediator, Micanopy, FL.
Arrangements are by Aycock Funeral Home, Jensen Beach, FL 34957.
