He was born May 26, 1930 in Fayette County, a son of the late Kenneth L. and Martha O’Brien Townsend.
Jim was a 1949 graduate of Jefferson High School.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Jim was an active member of the Jefferson Baptist Church, and the family is thank full to his church family for their faithful and continued support to Jim and his family.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #400, Carmichaels, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4793, Waynesburg, and the Purple Heart Association. He was also active in Habitat for Humanity in Greene County.
Jim worked as a millwright for LTV Steel.
On June 26, 1954 he married Arlette Rose McCann Townsend, who died March 31, 2016.
Surviving are a daughter, S. Renee Imhoff of Carmichaels; four grandchildren, Jason (Addie Burton) Imhoff, Jamie (Joey) Menhart, James (Amanda) Dorsch, and Sean Dorsch; four great grandchildren, Aidan, Alexander, and Athena Dorsch, and Lettie Menhart.
Deceased is a daughter, Arletta Jane Townsend Dorsch; and a grandson, Scott Dorsch.
Friends will be received on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps and the Greene County Honor Guard.
