James Oliver Hayden, 82, of Clarksville, returned to his heavenly home on January 21, 2018 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family, country, and his firm belief in God, supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
James was born August 30, 1935, in Bentleyville, a son of the late Vernon O. (a coal miner) and Laura Hayden (a homemaker).
He joined the US Navy on October 7, 1955. James’ accomplishments in his duties included the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. He sailed on the USS John W. Weeks (DD-701) retiring with Honors after thirteen years of service.
James became a steel worker at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel at Allenport. After retiring from the steel mill he graduated from United Christian Ministerial Association Bible College in Cleveland, TN with an Ordination in Ministry.
He was blessed with a large and loving family. On February 3, 1982, in Carmichaels, he married his best friend and fellow parishioner Madaline Susanna Hetrick. Together they raised eight children in the adoration of God.
James was kind, soft spoken, and always charitable to his God, country, and family.
Surviving are his wife of thirty-six years, Madaline; his sons, Ronnie A. Hayden, Bruce E. Black, and Shane L. Black; his daughters, Dolores A. Pritchard, Donna L. Justus, Kelly Jo Peyton, Rebecca Lenay Menner, and Charlotte S. Friend; eighteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Dolly Evans Of Oregon; and brother, Harry Hayden of Pennsylvania:
Deceased are his brothers, Dennis, and Vernon Hayden.
Friends will be received from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018, the hour of services in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor. Military Honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3491 of Carmichaels and the United States Navy. Immediately following the services a reception will follow at the Rolling Meadows Church of God, 595 Rolling Meadows Rd., Waynesburg, PA 15370.
