Charles Richard "Bull" Corry

Charles Richard “Bull” Corry, 60, of Oakman, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Walker Baptist Medical Center. Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 7 p.m. A graveside service will be on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Friendship Estates Cemetery.

Corry was the proprietor of Old York Farms, having opened the western town in 1989 with his father, Harold. In 1995, he opened the Bull Pen Steakhouse on the property. His motto was “Eat More Steak”, and folks from around the world visited the award-winning restaurant for a delicious steak and their garden fresh salad bar.

Bull’s past is a colorful blend of music and adventure. From hosting some of the biggest names in country music at Old York, to tough man fights, rodeos, movies and even professional wrestling commercials. One of his claims to fame was being a “boot double” for legendary wrestler Ric Flair, who was scared to ride a horse, so Bull stepped in. He was always ready for the next adventure life threw at him.

In 2021, Bull joined WJLX 101.5 FM as the host of the popular Sunday afternoon program “Bull Corry’s Outlaw Country”. He loved being on the air playing real country music that isn’t featured on regular “pop country radio”. He thoroughly enjoyed coming into listeners homes each week.

But it was not all steak and music. He graduated high school and went straight to work in the coal mines where he stayed until 2020, when he went to work as a contractor for Alabama Power.

He loved his hometown of Oakman and proudly served two terms as Mayor.

In his personal life, he married his wife Stephanie in 1993 and they raised two children, “His Girls”, Chloe and Cashan, who he loved dearly.

An avid Alabama football fan, he spent what time he could when not working watching his beloved Tide roll to victory. He also loved Oakman athletics, especially softball.

Bull had the strongest faith imaginable in God and always found good in the bad.

His favorite past time was making people laugh and spending time with his family and friends – and even strangers! He could talk to anyone for five minutes and would walk away with a new friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Belle Corry; father-in-law, Donny McGough, and sister, Mary Jo Glenn.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie McGough Corry; daughters, Chloe Corry and Cashan Corry; brother, James Corry (Sandra), mother-in-law, Rena McGough; step mother, Sylvia Corry; nephews, Corry Glenn and Gus Corry; nieces, Ricki Glenn Kylce and Grace Corry; boyfriend-in-laws, Lawson Jent and Rider Gross; and special cousin, Angela Sullivan.
