Betty Jean Jones

Betty Jean Jones was lifted up to the Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Born in Chesapeake, Virginia, she married David P. Jones in 1949. During their 67 years of marriage they raised six children. Her last years were spent happily in New Bern, NC with her husband, and near family, including grand and great grandchildren who kept her young at heart.

She was a generous, lively and loving spirit, and never knew a stranger. Let us all remember her jitterbugging days, and the thousand joyous, noisy suppers at the big oak table. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, David P. Jones, her parents, Aileen and Samuel McKown, and sister Connie Russell.

She is survived by her children, Michael (wife Karen), Gary (wife Laurie), Beverly Evans (husband Robert), Linda Salzman (husband Dave), Mary Jones, and Tony (wife Nancy McCormick). She had six grandchildren, Matt Salzman, Jessica Hardison (husband Josh), Richard Clark (wife Genoa), Sarah Clark, Ryan Jones, and Rich Del Russo, and five great grandchildren – Lacey, Mason, Peyton and Abigail Hardison, and Brennan Del Russo. She is also survived by her loving niece, Joyce Wall.

She had a long and beautiful life with her husband and family, and her home was always open to anyone who came. Those who knew her will forever remember her spark, bright energy and joyful laughter. She was a beautiful gem. Remember her when you feed the birds and smell the roses.
