William Michael Perry

William Michael (Mike) Perry 71, of Jacksonville, Florida went home to be with the Lord on October 28th, 2021. He was born in Greensboro, NC June 27th, 1950 and raised in Burlington, NC by his parents, the late William and Vera Perry. He attended the military school for boys in Va. and graduated from Williams High School in Burlington. Mike served in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam War. Following his stellar military career he was employed by Metal Container Corporation for 39 years, retiring as Chief of Warehouse in 2015.

Although Mike was raised in church and Loved the Lord, at a time of health crises at 30 years of age he got serious about his relationship with Christ and settled the matter of his faith in Christ forever. He was concerned about the way he had been living and at that time he placed his faith and trust in Christ. He repented of his sins and received the gift of Eternal life. For the rest of his life he had a calm assurance that he was a child of God and had been saved.

Mike was a selfless man who always put others before himself, he was always happy and never complained as a child, which continued throughout his life, even throughout his illnesses. He enjoyed boating, exploring new places, fall foliage, jazz music, Gunsmoke, and the beach.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Shirley Barton Perry and son Scott (Heather) Perry, daughter Jennifer Perry, grandson Max Perry, sister Virginia (Hurley) Dixon, and many extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the clinicians and staff at Mayo Clinic. Special recognition to Dr. Matthew Thomas, Cardiothoracic Surgeon whose surgical expertise, compounded with his compassion, extended Mike’s ability to spend quality time with his family. Also, recognition to the Surgical Intensive Care nurses and physicians, especially Dr. Syin, Critical Care Intensivist, whose kindness will never be forgotten. Mike benefited from Mayo Clinic’s Advance Care at Home services, where he continued to receive hospital level of care in his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Services are Saturday, November 6th at Hardage-Giddens funeral home 11801 San Jose Blvd with visitation from 10 am until the Service at 11 am. Burial will be at Mandarin Cemetery on Mandarin Road. Fellowship and food will be shared at Mike and Shirley’s church, Christian Family Chapel (The Table coffee house) at 10291 Old St. Augustine Road.
