Walter Harrison Jacobs was born in Macon, GA July 25, 1927, the oldest son to Noah Curtis Jacobs and Phamie Landers Ford, he had four siblings which are all deceased. He went home to be with his Lord on January 24, 2022 in Thompson’s Station, TN. He died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes.
He was married to Wanda Gwyentte Jones of Macclenny, Fl. on February 16, 1951, and she preceded him in death after 65 years of marriage. They had two daughters, Cynthia Gail Willett (deceased ) and Melissa Ann Chapman.
They have eight grandchildren Sean Watson, Dawn Allman, Allison Allman, Scott Chapman, Zachary Chapman, Caroline Chapman, Henry Chapman, and Emmaline Chapman.
They have ten great grandchildren Aidan Watson, MacKenzie Watson, Kelcie Watson, Jacob Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Jenna Taylor, Johanna Taylor, Caleb Wilkerson, Emily Wilkerson, Elias Chapman.
They have one great great grandchild, Kaitlyn Woods.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served on his first ship duty on the Attack Supply Ship USS Scania during WWII in 1945-46. Through his career he served on many other US naval vessels. He was an aviation technician, and retired honorary at the rank of Chief, in 1973.
Metal of Valor
He received a metal for heroism under fire during the January14, 1969 missile explosions on the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, where he rescued Chief Petty Officer Charles Reeps, who had sever leg injuries, saving his life.
Walter loved to tinker, and you could almost find him in his shop. He loved restoring old cars and he completely restored a 1965 Mustang, not once, but twice. That car is still in the family. Walter and Wanda loved their church, Blanding Boulevard Baptist Church , and were members until their deaths. If it was Sunday, or Wednesday night, they were almost always in attendance.
A graveside service for Walter will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. 32205
