W Alvin Watson, 92, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2017 at home with his loving wife and family at his side. Alvin, a Jacksonville native, attended Robert E. Lee High School and went to work in 1943 as a clerk for Eastern Seaboard Petroleum Company. He remained in the oil business 42 years retiring as Executive Vice President. During his lengthy professional career he served as President of the North American Credit Managers Association and pursued an advanced education earning an MBA from University of North Florida. Alvin was active in his church and in many different Florida Baptist endeavors including serving as a Trustee of the Florida Baptist Foundation and as a director of Florida Baptist Financial Services. In addition, he served as the Business Manager of the Woodcock Foundation for the Appreciation of the Arts. He enjoyed swimming, painting with watercolors, reading and music, playing the trombone in a dance band in his youth. He gave selflessly of time, talent and treasure.
Alvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorcas Mason Watson. He is survived by his wife, Lorrin Sue Watson; son, Tim Watson (Chris); daughter, Dr. Liz Watson; and many close cousins and relatives.
A memorial service remembering Alvin will be held beginning at 2:30pm, Friday, June 16, 2017 in the chapel at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Alvin's family suggests that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in his name.
