Ms. Williamson passed away, on 07/10/2024 in Florida, at her daughters’ home, after a long illness. Her family was surrounding her.
Born in Marlboro County, on 12/23/1936 to her Parents, Charlie Arthur Sr. and Nellie Daily McDuffie.
Ms. Williamson graduated from Bennettsville High School, in Bennettsville, SC in 1955. She was a great basketball player, number 29 and she loved being a cheerleader. She continued her education and took courses at Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College, in Cheraw, SC. She started her career with Southern Bell on 12/31/1956. Where, she took a position, as an operator. She worked for Southern Bell, at various locations, for 37 years before she retired. Her start location, was at Bair Drug Company in Bennettsville. Then, she moved to Laurinburg, NC where her career took off. She was a Service Assistant, worked in the Business Office, she assigned telephone numbers to customers, cable repairs department and finally to the Engineering Department before retiring.
After retiring from Southern Bell, she took a position with Dupree Miller, Attorney at Law, as his secretary. She worked there for several years until he retired.
She then took a position with the DDSN (Marlboro County Disabilities and Special Needs Board). She was over Human Resources until retiring from there in 2004. She worked there for many years. This organization helps people and children with special needs.
She then took a position with the Marlboro County Chamber of Commerce for 5 years. She then retired from there.
Ms. Williamson met and married Claude Jack Williamson, in 1954. They began their life together and had their first daughter in 1959. And the Second daughter came along in 1961. They had too precious daughters, Teresa “Terry” Williamson and Linda Carol Williamson. They built a brand new home on Ansel Street, in 1963. This is where they lived until her husband, passed away in 1992. The love of her Life. Together they shared many happy memories and watched their girls grow up. The family loved cook outs and having family over to share churned ice cream, after church on Sundays. Mom made the best chili and pimento Cheese.
In 1977, they joined The First United Methodist Church, where she taught two different Sunday School Classes. She taught 1st and 2nd graders for 23 years and then The Billy Railey Class for 17 years. Ms Williamson took piano lessons and played piano in church Sunday School. She was also a member of the Church Choir for 42 years. She was a member of the PPRC, alter guild, Usher, Administrative Counsel, Delegate for Annual Conference for 20 years and Lay Speaker. She also taught Lay Speaking courses. She was also a member of the energetic, UMW, district treasurer for Marion District and Bible Study. She loved her church and the Choir.
Ms. Williamson loved all kinds and of flowers and loved having a garden each year. She loved mowing her own yard and making things look nice in her yard. She loved going to the farmers markets to get vegetables she did not grow or to get more flowers she did not have.
She was an avid bridge player and was in several different clubs. Along with the book clubs she was in.
Ms. Williamson joined the Pilot Club of Bennettsville. She was a member for over 25 years. She held offices of President, Vice president, Secretary, Treasure and Chaplin, over the years. She enjoyed the fundraising and the donation of funds to others in need. She enjoyed the monthly meeting and fellowship with the other members. She enjoyed helping the community in any way she could. The Pilot Club helps many organizations. She stayed in the Pilot Club until she had to resign this year 2024.
She is preceded in death by her parents above, her sisters Bea Mathews and Doris Mills, her brothers Fletcher McDuffie and Arthur McDuffie and a grandson William “Billy” Beyer III.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Carol Beyer and Teresa “Terry” Williamson/Susan Dyal and a granddaughter Jacquelyn “Jackie” Beyer.
